Been a minute

When you’re in a high-pressure field and you have a disability, there’s a lens on you. It’s a magnifying lens; step in the wrong spot and you will burn. You are a burden. You are a liability. You have to be better; you have to be perfect. Any less and the cost-benefit analysis will fall against you.

Neurodivergence

There are many words for the many things that I am. Each of these words carries meaning, a set of other words stemming therefrom that describes certain behaviors and expectations of myself. Now, finally, at age 41, I have learned a new word to describe an aspect of my identity that I have always struggled with naming, a fundamental odd-ness that set me apart from others. I am autistic.

He was the calmest corn snake I've ever met - by which I mean he wouldn't immediately make a break for it if you tried to handle him. He was always interested in what was going on around him. He was a fun little guy.

Weekend Warriors!

Taking the time to line up a shot, to imagine how it's going to look when you're done with it, to just sit there and think about what you're going to shoot next, is an amazing exercise in mindfulness.

AI can’t even put hair on a cat.

One cool thing about AI integration: it can figure out what a picture is probably about and sort out "subject" pixels from "background" pixels with reasonable accuracy. For that sort of thing, it's an incredibly useful tool that I'm glad to have in my arsenal.

How Not to Start A Blog

Are you a celebrity? No? Then no one cares that much about your personal drama. Your acquaintances might be interested in watching real-life reality TV play out in real-time but the universe as a whole doesn't. They've got actual reality TV for that.
